NIC Peshawar’s startup, Smart Tubewell, coined their name in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by securing the 1st Runner Up position at the Watsathon 2019, receiving a cash prize of PKR 100,000.

Organized by WSSP in collaboration with TiE Islamabad Chapter, Epiphany and NIC Peshawar, Watsathon, a Water & Sanitation Hackathon, kicked off on 26th July 2019 at NIC Peshawar. It was a three day event, targeted to solve the water and sanitation issues of Peshawar, attended by more than 30 innovators from all over Pakistan.

Founder Abdul Haseeb, who has done Bachelor’s in Computer Science, came up with the idea when facing an issue in his community regarding the lack of operators close to any tube wells during Ramadan.

Smart Tubewell is developing an IoT Based Clean Water Management System Device, which can identify water wastage and water theft. The device is installed to a clean water pump and it can then monitor the flow, water level, electricity consumption and water pressure remotely, along with schedule on-off of the Tubewells, through any mobile device.

We got our pilot device installed with WSSCM through the connections that NIC Peshawar helped us bag. This is a huge favor for us.

At NIC Peshawar Smart Tubewells worked on the development of their product and identification of target customers. During their incubation period, the founders were connected with WSSCM (Mardan) to set up their device for piloting purposes. They have also installed their devices with PDA and CDA.

Smart Tubewell is a very innovative and promising solution to the water resource management in Pakistan, and their win at the Watsathon is perhaps only a door opening to many more opportunities.
